Open Thread: Tell Us About Your Favorite Horror Comedy!

For this latest Halloween post, we are going to mix things up a bit by throwing some laughs in with the shocks to ask you what your favorite horror-comedy is. Perhaps the greatest example of the genre is Mel Brooks‘ 1974 crowdpleaser Young Frankenstein.

The film is a hilarious parody of Universal monster classics that is shot so beautifully you’d be forgiven for thinking it was from the 1930s. The aforementioned cinematography is stunning, but where Young Frankenstein really comes alive (for lack of a better a phrase) is through the performances of arguably the greatest comedy cast ever assembled. Stars Gene Wilder, Madeline Kahn, Teri Garr, Peter Boyle, Marty Feldman, and Cloris Leachman bounce off each other’s performances so well that their comedic acrobatics leave audiences feeling exhausted with laughter.

As you can tell we are partial to Young Frankenstein, which isn’t to say there aren’t other horror comedies that are absolute classics. Gremlins. The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Little Shop of Horrors. The Hotel Transylvania series. There are so many options to choose from! Sound off about your favorites below, we want to hear what creepy comedies you keep coming back to. We also want to hear what factors you think make a film a horror-comedy, so here’s a place to have you say!
